The Social Network

the social network movieThe movie essentially takes you through Facebook’s rise to fame, and the implications it had on Zuckerberg. Both legal and personal complications arise, and you start to realize how ironic it is that Zuckerberg let the social networking site take priority over his own social life – and he loses all personal connections in the process.

It’s interesting to see what influenced the business decisions behind the establishment of the world’s most popular social networking site. It also offers more insight into Zuckerberg as a person – a Harvard dropout geek genius with many successful personal projects under his belt, who had created thefacebook (what it was called then) in his dorm room. Of course, we’re introduced to the other players – Eduardo Saverin and the Winklevoss twins that end up suing Zuckerberg, and co-founder of Napster Sean Parker, who provided him with advice.

Sorkin sums up the Hollywood version of the early founding of Facebook pretty well as “a classical story of friendship, loyalty, betrayal and jealousy”.

And if you’re curious how much actors resemble the real characters:

Here the real Winklevoss twins talk about their lawsuit with Mark Zuckerberg on Bloomberg.

It’s definitely a movie worth catching. If you’re a budding entrepreneur, you might just pick up some lessons from the movie as well. Oh and for the fun of it, don’t miss the parodies too.
