In brief: Thailand to implement ecommerce tax in 2020
- Thailand is looking to introduce a value-added tax on electronic businesses in 2020 amid an ecommerce boom in the country, Reuters reported.
- The government is aiming to collect between 3 billion to 4 billion baht (US$98 million to US$131 million) annually with the new tax, which is expected to seek parliamentary approval this year.
- According to the Thailand Revenue Department’s director general, Thailand is targeting overall tax revenue of 2 trillion baht (US$65.4 billion) in the current fiscal year to September 30 and 2.1 trillion baht (US$69.2 billion) in the next fiscal year.
