SparkLabs Global invests $600k in Korea’s MangoPlate

SparkLabs Global Ventures, the Seoul-based seed fund that complements SparkLabs Accelerator, revealed today it has invested US$600,000 in MangoPlate, a restaurant discovery app for South Korea.

According to SparkLabs, MangoPlate provides customized restaurant recommendations for its users based on one’s social profile and “food personality.” Its recommendation engine runs through a database of 200,000 restaurants, as well as algorithms that account for factors like cuisine type and location. Founded by alumni from Naver, Kakao, Apple, and Samsung, the app has been live for over one year.

Despite being headquartered in Seoul, SparkLabs has traditionally given equal preference toward helping domestic and international startups. SparkLabs Global Ventures’ East Asia portfolio currently consists of three additional Korean teams: app development firm Timecast, education startup Knowre, and Memebox, the beauty box company which Tech in Asia profiled in October.
