Tencent Cloud taps Hong Kong as global expansion hub
Tencent Cloud said that it plans to use the city as a two-way gateway for overseas expansion.
The strategy aims to help mainland Chinese companies expand overseas and international firms enter mainland China.
Tencent Cloud said its network spans 23 regions and 66 availability zones. Recent additions in Frankfurt, Riyadh, and Osaka. It also plans a Mexico cloud region with two availability zones. The company added that its global business, including Hong Kong, was growing at a high double-digit rate.
The strategy reflects why Hong Kong remains a gateway for mainland companies. The city offers open financial markets, a common-law system, access to international capital, and a role as a bridge to the Greater Bay Area.
Some mainland China data may need to stay onshore or clear security reviews before transfer to Hong Kong. Newer Greater Bay Area measures have eased restrictions for some personal data flows.
