AdMarvel (owned by Opera) recently released its mobile ad report and for advertisers or folks in the mobile space, I urge you to give it a read. As far as Asia is concerned, only one thing caught my eye: Indonesia.
While we do know that Indonesia has a lot of mobile phones users, we are pleasantly surprised that its mobile ad impressions is ranked tops in Asia. Yes, that’s even more than heavyweight markets like China, India, and Japan.
In terms of global ranking, Indonesia was ranked fourth in impressions, just one spot above Japan. I reached out to Opera for more details about the 20 countries, the spokesperson couldn’t offer us the data. However, she did shed some light on why Indonesia has topped Japan this area:
One of the possible explanations would be that [Indonesians] spent more time on mobile internet in average than Japan. In our survey at page 7, 48 percent of all respondents (both Opera and non-Opera users) cited that mobile phone is the only method possible to gain internet access. That may result in generating more ad impressions on mobile than the one in Japan.
While it would be good to know more about this, it’s certainly encouraging to see that things are looking rosy for the mobile advertising space in Indonesia.
