Need A Taxi in Jakarta? Just Use A BlackBerry App

If you want to travel by taxi in Jakarta, it’s likely that you might find yourself using Blue Bird — not just because it’s the largest taxi company around, but also it’s well-known for trusted and innovative service. And now it’s even easier to reserve a Blue Bird taxi when you need one, thanks to a new BlackBerry application.

The taxi’s mobile reservation app – here’s the BlackBerry App World link for it – was launched yesterday after running a month-long beta test. Blue Bird claims to attract 60,000 customers who have all downloaded and registered for the service during its trial run.

As reported by Bisnis Indonesia, Purnomo Prawiro, CEO of Blue Bird, claims that taxi reservation rate has increased up to 20 percent since the app service was launched.

While there’s no way to prove his claim, we believe he’s not exaggerating. There are three million BlackBerry users in the country and chances are many of them are Blue Bird customers. With this application, users only need to track the nearest available taxi via the smartphone map (see the screenshot above) which gets its info from the company’s network. Users can also be connected directly to a taxi driver without the need to contact the call center.

This is certainly a good way to optimize the smartphone’s capability. As we reported earlier, most BlackBerry users in Indonesia are hooked to their BlackBerry devices and this initiative helps to make taxi booking easier – all within their mobile phone.

Considering how Blue Bird is an innovative and tech-loving company, perhaps someday its taxi fleet will have screens showing you some backseat exercise routines like the ones in Shanghai.
