Ask TIA: I’ve worked for 3 IT startups but all failed. Should I just give up?

There are a lot of good things about joining a startup. Employees can enjoy a great culture, learn a lot from new opportunities, and benefit from exciting perks, among others.

But what if things end too soon for a startup? Here’s a situation from one of our readers:

I have worked in 3 IT-related startups, with huge ambitions to use my experience and network to help build them up even if I wasn’t a co-founder. However, due to certain issues such as co-founder pride and overprotection over their IP, various plans were rejected. All 3 folded just months after I left each. All 3 did not offer fantastic salaries or equity. In fact, I took a massive pay cut for the most recent ‘adventure.’ Should I just lower my ambitions and return to work in the civil service?
