Software as a service(SaaS) is a software delivery method in which an application is provided over the internet, licensed mostly via a subscription basis where customers can do away with the hassle of managing complex software management. The ability to use a suite of products that meets the needs of customers drives a demand within the versatile vertical due to its customisability, not to mention the choice of upgrading for larger customers with low risk and adoption cost.
According to Tech in Asia Data, the year 2015 saw 52 percent of SaaS startups getting funding worldwide.
Globally, the potential of the vertical is still on the uptrend. This year, 63 percent of SaaS startups are getting funded – and we’ve still got one month left till year end.
The table below also shows the total deals made within the SaaS vertical in India and Southeast Asia within the last few years. (According to Tech in Asia Data)
| Year | Deals |
| 2016 | 64 |
| 2015 | 61 |
| 2014 | 37 |
