Is interest in the Apple Watch dying off?

    Apple Watch

Over the past few days, a number of reports have come out suggesting that Apple Watch sales have fallen off a cliff. This MarketWatch piece, for example, cites a report from Slice Intelligence estimating that Apple is selling less than 20,000 Watches a day globally, and that on some days it’s less than 10,000, most of which are the less profitable “Sport” model.

Then there’s this report in Forbes, in which Pacific Crest Securities analyst Andy Hargreaves says he’s also cutting back his estimates for Apple Watch sales for this year and 2016.

Apple hasn’t yet disclosed any sales figures, so all industry analysts can really do is guess. And as many observers have pointed out, Watch sales were expected to fall after the initial burst of sales at launch. Moreover, 20,000 sales a day is still a better number than any Android Wear gadget could boast.

But at the same time, there are concrete signs that consumer interest in the Watch is pretty low. Check out the Google search trends for “iPod” and “Apple Watch” over the past 30 days, for example. iPod is actually beating Apple Watch, despite the fact that it’s been three years since Apple released a new model of iPod, and the product line is so unimportant to Apple that it doesn’t even feature on the nav bar of the company’s official website anymore.

So what do you think? Is the Apple Watch a dud? Are people just not interested in smartwatches to begin with? Have you seen anyone actually wearing an Apple Watch in your area?
