I’m David Jou, co-founder and CEO of Pomelo Fashion. Ask me anything!

NOTE: This AMA has ended. Find the Q&A with David here.

Hello TIA community!

My name is David Jou, and I am the co-founder and CEO of Pomelo Fashion. Launched in 2013, Pomelo is a modern fashion brand born in Asia with a global mindset: on-trend, online, on-the-go.

Before Pomelo, I co-founded Lazada Thailand, where I served as managing director. During my tenure, Lazada Thailand grew to be one of the leading online shopping sites in Thailand. Prior to Lazada, I was based in New York City where I worked at Bain & Company as well as New Mountain Capital, a US$10 billion private equity fund.

In short: former consultant becomes a private equity investor, falls in love with the opportunity in Southeast Asia, joins regional juggernaut, but ultimately leaves to do his own thing in a space he knows nothing about.

In other words, just another typically atypical entrepreneurship story!

You can ask me about:

  • Why is the company called Pomelo?
  • Why did you decide to start your company in Bangkok?
  • What’s the best place to get a cigar in Bangkok?
  • What are the latest technology trends in the world of fashion retail?
  • How do you compete with the likes of Lazada and Shopee?
  • What is it like to get an investment from JD?

Go on—ask me anything!

Thanks again David for doing this AMA with us, and to everyone for submitting your questions! I’ll now end the live session with a final question: What is the one advice you’d like the TIA Community to take away from this AMA?
