Super effective links for aspiring Pokemon trainers

Whether you’re aiming to be the future Pokemon champ, Kalos region photo model, stylish fashionista, expert breeder, PR video star, or are just starting out on your Pokemon journey, here are several useful links that will help you on your quest.

Game features and general Pokemon Info

There’s a lot of things going on in a Pokemon game; terms, in-game features, online features, areas, usable items, held items, and game-specific Pokemon and your unending pursuit of them. If you’re ever stuck, Bulbapedia and Serebii are two of the most comprehensive dictionaries for anything Pokemon.

Bulbapedia displays more comprehensive data, such as appearances from the anime and manga, names from other languages, a Pokemon_’s origin or background, its moves, in-game sprites and animations, but crams it all into a single page. Serebii, on the other hand, separates all of the listed information by game generations. If you just need info on _Pokemon X & Y, go to Serebii, but if you want to know more about your favorite Pokemon, character, items or cities, go to Bulbapedia.

Pokemon Global Link

To enrich your Pokemon experience, you can link and sync your game to the Pokemon Global Link. By doing so, you can view your in-game milestones in the timeline, get medals for them, and even share your accomplishments via Facebook or Twitter. You can also check your online battle rating, and search for information on the schedules for ground events, product releases, online Mystery Gift distribution events, Pokemon trades, game patches and other important updates.

Friend Safari

Accessible only after defeating the Elite Four, the Friend Safari in Kiloude City allows you to access areas based on the friends you’ve added to your game. Each friend will be assigned a certain Type of Pokemon. Friend Safari allows you to catch Pokemon that are otherwise unobtainable via the normal play-through. What’s best is if your friend is online at the same time as you are; the Pokemon in the area will then be found with Hidden Abilities. A comprehensive list of friends you can add can be found here

If you’re serious about getting into battles against other players, or participating in competitive events, here are two links that can help you out:

Breeding the perfect Pokemon

To compete, you first have to breed a strong Pokemon. Breeding a Pokemon with perfect stats, or perfect Individual Values (IV) takes quite a lot of preparation and time, but it’s not impossible. You have a choice of a comprehensive written guide, or this detailed visual guide.

All about Effort Values

After you’ve successfully bred your desired Pokemon, it’s time to train its Effort Values (EV). EVs determine the stats your Pokemon gets upon levelling up. In previous Pokemon games, EVs were hidden values that could only be obtained by battling Pokemon that award experience points. Pokemon X & Y has brought the EV to light via Super Training. You can read more about EV training here.

Now that you are better equipped with the knowledge and know-how, it’s time to go out there and apply it to your quest. If you have any useful links of your own, please share them with us in the comments!
