Stripe unveils stablecoin, AI upgrades for global businesses
Stripe unveiled new products and updates focused on stablecoins and AI at its Stripe Tour Singapore 2025 event on August 20, 2025.
The company, which provides financial services tools to businesses, introduced over 50 upgrades across payments, revenue, and embedded finance tools.
Stripe said nearly half of surveyed Asian businesses plan to use stablecoins within two years, while 20% are already implementing AI agents.
The company now processes stablecoin payments from over 120 countries and recently announced stablecoin financial accounts for customers from more than 100 countries.
Stripe also debuted the Terminal S710 payment reader and expanded access for businesses to local payment methods in markets like Brazil, India, South Korea, and Indonesia.

🧠 Food for thought
1️⃣ Regulatory momentum outpaces actual stablecoin adoption in payments
While Stripe’s survey shows 46% of Asian businesses plan to adopt stablecoins within 24 months, the reality of mainstream payment adoption remains challenging.
Hong Kong’s comprehensive stablecoin regulatory framework launched in August 2025 with strict licensing requirements, including HK$25 million in paid-up capital and 100% backing with liquid assets 1.
This regulatory clarity creates the infrastructure for growth, but significant barriers persist in converting businesses from crypto trading to actual payment usage.
The gap between regulatory readiness and market adoption suggests that while the foundation is being built, practical implementation for everyday commerce may take longer than businesses expect.
Stripe’s infrastructure investments, such as acquiring Bridge and Privy and partnering with Visa for stablecoin cards, demonstrate the substantial buildout required to bridge traditional and digital payment systems.
2️⃣ AI-driven commerce transformation timeline may be overly ambitious
Asian businesses expect dramatic shifts in how customers shop, with 82% anticipating AI-driven sales channels by 2030 and 50% expecting significant sales through these channels.
However, only 20% of surveyed businesses are currently implementing agentic AI, while 47% are still preparing for adoption—suggesting a significant execution gap.
