Steve Wozniak in Indonesia for Seminar on Innovation and Creativity

Before the “Innovation and Creativity” seminar kicks off tomorrow in Jakarta, its main speaker, the co-founder of Apple, Steve Wozniak, held a press conference earlier today at the city’s JW Marriott Hotel. We dropped in to take a look, and heard that he is going to talk about the importance of innovation and creativity and its source, about what sort of people are able to make their dreams into reality, and how to still be innovative while running a profit-demanding corporation.

At the press conference today, Wozniak said he believed that the reason for Apple’s success lies in its philosophy of building good products first. Interestingly, he said that Macintosh in the old days was the largest computer company even when it only had market share of five percent because of this philosophy. Wozniak, who also admires other gadgets and products outside of Apple, said that one of the perks of not working at Apple now is that he can talk about the pros and cons of any gadgets he sees, including Apple’s.

Wozniak was quite honest in saying that he didn’t know much about the Indonesian tech scene. He then continued by explaining that he is a keen observer of how technology is used in relation to life. He said that technology makes the biggest change to the way we live our life, and that he is concerned to see how technology is incorporated into businesses and schools. Wozniak believes that tiny simplifications to the way we approach things in life do matter.

The seminar will be held after lunch tomorrow and run until 6pm. Wozniak is scheduled to talk for approximately one and a half hours including the Q&A session in the day’s fifth slot. Here are the list of speakers who will fill the four slots before Wozniak:

• Daniel Tumiwa, the country manager of Multiply.
• Yoris Sebastian, the founder of OMG consulting.
• Rene Suhardono, the career coach and author of Your Job is Not Your Career.
• Ligwina Hananto, the co-founder of QM Financial.
• Peter F. Gontha, dubbed the “Donald Trump of Indonesia,” he has built numerous businesses such as the Grand Hyatt Jakarta, Bali Intercontinental Resort, First Media, and Indovision.

You might recall Wozniak putting a knife in the heart of Singapore’s creative minds with his comment on to the BBC a few months ago. It will be interesting to see if he’ll make similarly controversial comments at the seminar tomorrow.
