With APAC’s growing need for AI talent, a consultancy company presents a salary benchmark

Around the world, 85% of companies agree that they have an urgent need for artificial intelligence while 90% say they have an AI strategy in place already, according to Humans of AI: Innovations and Hiring Trends in APAC, a report by recruitment consultancy company Michael Page.

The report added that by 2020, 30% of companies globally will be using AI in at least one of their sales processes. But while it will eliminate 1.8 million jobs, it will also create 2.3 million more; already, jobs that require AI skills have increased 4.5x since 2013. Asia Pacific, in particular, will exhibit the highest compound annual growth rate of 59.5% between 2018 and 2025.

In India, multinational corporation banks and companies working in management consulting, product, ecommerce, and internet belong to tier one industries that offer digital and analytics jobs, where the average base salary ranges from US$31,223 to US$217,686, depending on an employee’s years of experience. For tier two businesses, which include domestic financial institutions, third-party consulting companies, and early-stage start-ups, the average salary varies from US$25,844 to US$174,108.

In Hong Kong, the median salary for application- and development-related jobs ranges from US$43,868 to US$116,121, whereas posts in data management and analytics pay between US$58,063 and US$108,384.

Meanwhile, jobs in data management and analytics in Singapore offer a median salary ranging from US$48,609 to US$121,534. In Japan, the range for data management-related jobs goes from US$80,795 to US$123,569, and from US$57,032 to US$118,817 for IT vendor tech positions.

Taiwan and Indonesia fall a little behind these four markets: In Taiwan, the median annual salary package for data posts varies between US$34,220 and US$85,550, while the IT industry in Indonesia offers a monthly gross base salary of up to US$3,355 for data management and analytics jobs.
