Startup Weekend Beijing To Kickoff On Friday With Techcrunch Disrupt Prize

This upcoming weekend will see another Startup Weekend event kick off in Beijing. Regular readers of this site may remember our coverage of Startup Weekend Tokyo back in August, which saw a number of teams put together start-up ideas over an intensive three-day session.

The Beijing event, scheduled for October 21 to 23, is slightly different however, in that the winner will be awarded an “Exhibitor’s Package” for Techcrunch Disrupt at the end of the month. This allows them to exhibit their start-up for both days of that conference.

In addition, 20 lucky Startup Weekend Beijing applicants will receive passes to Techcrunch’s Beijing Hackathon, which takes place on the 29th and 30th.

Techcrunch and Red Pagoda Resources are partnering on Startup Weekend and the Beijing Hackathon events. The latter is a recruiting firm that provides talent for VC backed internet companies in China. Andy Mok, the managing director at Red Pagoda noted:

The selection of Beijing as the site for TechCrunch’s first ever international Disrupt conference shows that Beijing indeed is becoming as important in the tech world as Silicon Valley and New York City … Teams may also win at least US$25k of seed financing at the end of the Weekend from China Startup Republic/Innovation Camp, a newly launched investment fund targeting seed stage investments in China.”
