Crowdfunding has emerged as a viable way for startups to raise money, with companies like Pebble and Lockitron raising millions from an enthusiastic public.
To mark the arrival of this alternative fundraising method, Crowdsourcing Week — a global event on crowdsourcing, open innovation, and crowdfunding — is organizing a crowdfunding competition that is inviting startups from around the world to submit their ideas.
Ten finalists will be picked from the pool, after which they will attempt to raise USD 30,000 each through a crowdfunding campaign. The three startups that raise the most money will then win a spot to pitch at the Crowdsourcing Week conference in Singapore, to be held from 3-7 June 2013.
The campaigns will be hosted on Rockethub, a crowdfunding platform for artists, scientists, entrepreneurs, and social leaders.
