Social media is extremely versatile. Because of its wide reach and viral potential, it is used for businesses, social causes and even catching bicycle thieves. Now it is also used to help the U.S government get the word out about swine flu prevention.
A wide range of tools from Facebook, Podcast to Twitter are being used to deliver flu prevention tips and updates out to the public.
“We need to come up with products and interesting information that people can get something everywhere, anytime.” said Jenny Backus, Health and Human Services Public Affairs.
As said, social media is now their answer.
Prevention tips videos are created and disseminated through Facebook and Twitter. With the current numbers of fans and followers, the reach may not be as great as @Aplusk. Wow! A Video Contest
A YouTube channel was set up and it is currently filled with informative videos on flu prevention tips. Most intriguingly, I stumbled upon a video contest encouraging people to create and share personal videos about their flu prevention stories.
Though the video is not the most interesting one ever, it is indeed a breakthrough to see government agencies step out of the box to communicate with its people.
The result? More than 200 video responses and over 50,000 views. Not too bad for a start!
