When I was first getting into the world of tech and startups, I used to have this idea that Japan would dominate the scene. Then I learned that the country, despite all its technological marvels and its public image as a haven for things like robotics, still faces many hurdles that keep it from prevailing.
Well, this week, Japan is taking center stage. B2B SaaS platform Josys is leading the pack on our biggest deals list. Not only that, but another Japanese startup has made it to our M&A list, too.

The biggest deals by country
🇯🇵 Japan’s Josys, which helps enterprise clients manage software tools and devices, has obtained US$100 million in venture debt. However, further details about the loan were not made publicly available.
🇦🇺 Q-ctrl is an Australian startup that develops quantum computing infrastructure software. It has secured US$86.3 million in additional series B funding from GP Bullhound, Lockheed Martin Ventures, Main Sequence Ventures, NTT Finance, Salesforce Ventures, Alpha Edison, and Salus Group, among others.
🇵🇭 Salmon, a fintech firm headquartered in the Philippines, has raised US$30 million for its series A-2 round. Investors in the round included International Finance Corporation and Lunate.
🇰🇷 Makestar is a South Korean entertainment tech company. It locked up US$22 million in series D money from HRZ, RPS Ventures, Company Partners, Altos Ventures, KDB Industrial Bank, and NextG Investment.
🇸🇬 Singapore-based cybersecurity firm watchTowr has netted US$20 million for its series A round led by Peak XV Partners, with participation from Prosus Ventures and Cercano Management.
