Apple Pay lands in Malaysia

Apple has launched its digital payment service in Malaysia. Starting today, Apple Pay is available for Mastercard and Visa cardholders of Maybank, AmBank, and Standard Chartered Bank. The service will be rolled out to users with American Express cards later this year.

This marks the second Southeast Asian market for Apple Pay. The tech giant previously released the payment service in Singapore in 2016.

With Apple Pay, customers can pay for products and services with their iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, and Mac devices when making purchases in store or online. The payment service uses Apple’s Face ID and Touch ID features as authentication methods.

Currently, Apple Pay is accepted at retailers such as KFC, McDonald’s, Starbucks, and Watsons, as well as in ecommerce websites like Shopee.

Among Apple’s main rivals, Samsung provides full services for Samsung Pay in Malaysia, while Google Pay is limited to only online and in-app payments in the country.
