Japan’s Sleipnir Mobile Browser Brings Tabbed Browsing to iOS [Demo]

sleipnir-mobile-iosSleipnir Mobile, the mobile browser from Japan-based Fenrir, is an interesting alternative to Apple’s own Mobile Safari. Having recently undergone an update, I thought I’d give it a trial run for a few days on the iPad. While the experience wasn’t perfect, there are certainly some features here that I’d love to have in a browser.

The tabbed browsing experience is solid, with a bar along the bottom occupying minimal real-estate, and more importantly it doesn’t require much of a reach when you need to switch tabs. While tabs on the top of a browser may work on a desktop, this feels like a better approach on a tablet.

Perhaps my favorite feature of the Sleipnir Mobile browser was the close-tab L-gesture. It was quick and easy, and understood every time. The browser was not without issues though, but for the most part it was a fun experience. Could I use Sleipnir as my default browser? I think I could, at least for now. iOS 5 will be rolling out tabbed browsing as well, so my feelings may change after that.

Check out the video demo below to get an idea for how Sleipnir Mobile handles on an iPad. If you want to give the app a try, you can get it for free on iTunes.
