SK Telecom launches in-car AI agent in latest Renault model

SK Telecom has launched its in-car AI agent, A. Auto, which debuts in Renault Korea’s new Filante model.

SK Telecom is a telecom company based in South Korea.

A. Auto is built into the vehicle’s infotainment system and lets drivers use voice commands for navigation, phone calls, news, music, and climate control.

The AI agent uses SK Telecom’s Korean-language large language model, A.X 4.0, to enable conversational interactions.

Features include suggesting destinations based on driving history, recommending actions like closing windows if air quality is poor, and syncing with the A. mobile app to suggest routes based on the user’s saved schedule.

SK Telecom said it plans to offer A. Auto to other automakers in the future.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

SK Telecom’s in-car AI deployment scale remains unclear despite Filante partnership

  • Filante goes on sale in South Korea in March with two-wheel drive to start 1. SK Telecom and Renault Korea have not said if A. Auto will ship on every trim or only on pricier versions, which limits clarity on real use.
  • Renault Korea sold 52,271 vehicles at home in 2025 1. A limited-edition Filante costs above 50 million won 1, yet planned volumes for the model remain undisclosed.
  • SK Telecom has not confirmed A. Auto for the higher-volume Grand Koleos SUV (40,877 units in 2025) 1. That gap makes it hard to judge whether this is broad in-car AI adoption or a small showcase in one upscale model.

Third-party developers could gain new distribution through SK Telecom’s automotive platform

  • SK Telecom runs the Open API Portal, a developer platform that shares application programming interfaces (APIs) with external firms, including small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) 2. Developers can mix multiple APIs to build new services, so A. Auto could follow that playbook.
  • Providers in navigation and music could plug into A. Auto if SK Telecom opens a partner program. Local news, weather, commerce, or location-based features could join as well, which would reach drivers during commutes or trip planning.
  • A Korean-language large language model (LLM) foundation could make A. Auto appealing to Korean content firms and app makers. SK Telecom has enabled tech mashups through its API platform, which can extend distribution beyond mobile screens 2.
