SK hynix may sell more US shares, raise US investment
SK hynix, a South Korea-based memory chipmaker, may sell more US-listed shares if returns improve and its stock price remains stable, SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won said on July 10.
He added that the group plans to increase its US investment.
The company’s US$26.5 billion Nasdaq debut involved American depositary receipts and was described as the largest first-time US share sale by a foreign company.
SK hynix said it will use the proceeds to expand capacity and buy more extreme ultraviolet lithography tools.
In the US, SK hynix is already planning to invest nearly US$4 billion in an advanced packaging and research-and-development facility for AI memory in West Lafayette, Indiana.
Mass production of next-generation high-bandwidth memory, or HBM, is expected to begin in the second half of 2028.
The Indiana project has been awarded up to US$458 million in CHIPS Act funding and could receive up to US$500 million in loans.
Separately, the reported 800 trillion won (US$533 billion) spending plan is for a new semiconductor hub in southwestern South Korea, with about 400 trillion won (US$266 billion) pledged by each of SK hynix and Samsung Electronics.
