SK hynix eyes record Q2 profit on AI memory boom
South Korean memory chipmaker SK hynix is expected to report 84.1 trillion won (US$57.6 billion) in second-quarter revenue and 64.1 trillion won (US$43.9 billion) in operating profit on July 29, based on a consensus of 14 brokerages.
If achieved, that quarterly operating profit would top SK hynix’s full-year 2025 operating profit of 47.2 trillion won (US$32.3 billion).
It would also continue the industry upcycle after the company reported 52.6 trillion won (US$36 billion) in first-quarter revenue, 37.6 trillion won (US$25.7 billion) in operating profit, and a 72% operating margin.
Analysts said the outlook is driven by strong memory demand and SK hynix’s lead in high-bandwidth memory (HBM) for AI servers.
The company held a 57% share of that market and is a supplier to Nvidia. They also pointed to tight supply and rising prices for conventional dynamic random-access memory (DRAM).
Brokerages expect SK hynix’s operating margin to rise to 75% to 77% from 72% in the first quarter.
Samsung Electronics has forecast 89.4 trillion won (US$61.2 billion) in second-quarter operating profit, putting the two South Korean chipmakers’ combined total above 150 trillion won (US$102 billion) if SK hynix meets estimates.
