SK Biopharma taps Insilico for $2.5b AI drug deal
SK Biopharmaceuticals and Insilico Medicine said at the 2026 Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO) convention on June 22 that they would jointly pursue drug candidates for neuroimmune diseases.
SK Biopharmaceuticals is South Korea-based drugmaker under SK Group, and Insilico Medicine is an AI drug discovery company.
Under the deal, Insilico will be eligible for up to US$18 million in upfront and near-term milestone payments. The collaboration could be worth more than US$2.5 billion in total, including development, regulatory, and commercialization milestones, plus single-digit royalties on net sales after commercialization.
Insilico will handle discovery, design, optimization, and preclinical work through its Pharma.AI platform.
SK Biopharmaceuticals would lead later-stage development and commercialization. Shares of Hong Kong-listed Insilico Medicine Cayman TopCo rose more than 13% after the announcement.
The collaboration builds on SK Biopharmaceuticals’ focus on central nervous system diseases. The company markets epilepsy drug XCOPRI.
