Singapore-based telco SingTel and mobile gaming publisher PlayPhone have launched WePlay, a mobile gaming platform for Android users, just a month and a half after inking the deal for it.
WePlay is an alternative ‘app store’ that uses consumer analytics to offer recommendations specially tailored to the user’s gaming preferences and also includes a social gaming aspect to let users connect to one another.
“Discovery of games is a big problem, and current app stores are not doing it well,” said G. P. Singh, SingTel’s Director of WePlay.
It’s currently only available for SingTel subscribers, who can download it for free on Google Play (the irony). It will also be preinstalled on upcoming Android devices from SingTel.
As a part of its launch, WePlay will be giving out 500 player credits to the first 100,000 downloads, so get to it! The play credits are available from now until December 31, 2013, and they will be given out up to the first 100,000 downloads or until the offer expires, whichever is earlier. Unredeemed credits will expire next year on February 28, 2014. Every 100 play credits are the equivalent of S$1, or $0.79.
WePlay currently has 150 games available for download, with another 150 in the pipeline. The platform is expected to hit the Philippines, India, Indonesia and Thailand next year with heavy localization for each market.
