Singtel’s Dash app now lets you pay on public transportation and send money abroad

Singaporean telco Singtel announced today the overhaul of its Dash mobile payments app to enable cashless payments everywhere from retail outlets to the MRT subway system using just your smartphone – even if you’re not a Singtel mobile subscriber.

The Dash app now includes a second, separate EZ-Link wallet.

This comes after Singapore’s telcos announced they’re adopting the NFC Transit SIM tech to allow near field communication-enabled smartphones to be used for payments on Singapore buses and subway trains.

Singtel said at the time it would integrate this functionality into Dash, and today the telco unveiled its all-in-one payment solution.

The Dash app now includes a second, separate ewallet that’s essentially the EZ-Link wallet. EZ-Link is the current payment infrastructure used in Singapore for paying on public transportation, in the form of NFC-enabled cards.

The system is integrated into Dash, which enables paying through your phone. It also allows you to check and top up your EZ-Link balance at any time and use it for transactions in participating outlets.

The renewed app still contains its previous payment functions, including paying in taxis (participating companies include Comfort DelGro, CityCab, and new partner Prime) and at selected retail chains including 7-Eleven, Cheers, NTUC Fairprice, KFC, Watsons, and more.

New features include:

Top-up at major banks

Users of the app can now top up the integrated ewallet using an account in any one of Singapore’s major banks that participate in Singpapore’s eNets payments scheme.

Money remittance

Dash users can send money to friends both domestically and overseas in the Philippines, Indonesia, India, and China. Domestic recipients must also be using the app to receive the money (if they’re not Dash users, they receive a text message that informs them they have funds incoming and prompts them to sign up).

Deals and rewards

Based on the user’s location, the app sends notifications about promotions from retail partners nearby. Users also get rewards like cashback (credited to their ewallet) and discounts. Singtel customers can also use cashback rewards toward their mobile bills.
