UCWeb overtakes Opera as India’s top mobile browser, adds Jack Ma to board (INFOGRAPHIC)

Did UCWeb just snatch the India mobile browser crown from Opera? That’s what the company claims, citing Statcounter data that puts its UC Browser mobile app just ahead of Opera, with 29.9 percent of the market share to Opera’s 28.5 percent. The two are the runaway leaders in the category — no other company has breached even 16 percent — but UCWeb’s browser has been ascendant over the past year, and in celebration the company has released an infographic with all sorts of information on India’s mobile market (below).

On an unrelated but interesting note, Alibaba founder and former CEO Jack Ma has joined UCWeb’s board of directors. Needless to say, he’s on board to help the company push further into mobile e-commerce.
