Singapore: watch League of Legends Season 4 world finals live with friends, thanks to this guy

The League of Legends Season 4 world finals will be held in South Korea this year, and the tournament series will be making group stage pit stops in Taipei and Singapore before that.

While the official tickets and prices for the group stages have been revealed, Singapore student and gamer Nick Lai Jia Ten is taking his passion for the game one step further. Not content with simply hosting League of Legends tournaments for internet cafes and coaching new players, Lai is stepping onto new ground this October.

The 19-year-old will be hosting a live viewing session for the Season 4 world semi-finals and finals. Lai and his team of three friends have joined forces with local non-profit gaming organization Singapore Cybersports and Online Gaming Association (SCOGA) for the venue, and are in talks with several other potential partners for other assorted needs.

Having personally attended the Dota 2 Singapore pubstomp hosted for The International 4, Lai feels his viewing event will be a good opportunity for gamers to have a great time. He added:

I’ve been to several live events regardless of the scope and I always loved the immense crowd atmosphere. I always wanted to recreate the same feeling when you’re in a live event [with] a common purpose, and this has that same common purpose.

Lai shared that he chose to work with established partners so as to present a better image to his audience. “We do take cultivating a better and mature gaming environment serious,” he said, adding that his event serves as a milestone for evolution in the eSports landscape as it promotes growth. He feels the viewing event would encourage a “sense of oneness” in the community, with all players being able to watch the event live from Korea regardless of differences between each other.

Lai was unable to share the event’s venue just yet as negotiations are still under way, though he did add that it will be somewhere in the West. It will also be ticketed, with each ticket priced at S$20 (approximately $16). However, ticket-holders will receive an exclusive loot box, which will include a t-shirt, a plushie, posters, and a small token of attendance, as well as access to the food and drink booths.

Considering the organizing team is led by a student, the amount of investment into the viewing session seems quite heavy. Lai shared that he would be renting a projector and screen, as well as absorbing the shipping cost of event merchandise. He estimated his total expenditure to be in the four-digit range.

But should you trust Lai, an individual who has come out of nowhere? We think it’s worth a shot.
