Singapore startup Nitrous.IO raises USD 1M round from Silicon Valley investors

Nitrous.IO (formerly Action.IO), a Singapore-based startup that makes setting up an Integrated Development Environment a snap, has just announced a USD 1M round led by Silicon Valley based Bessemer Venture Partners.

Draper Associates, CrunchFund, 500 Startups, TIBCO Software, Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin, Singapore’s Golden Gate Ventures, and Peanut Labs co-founder and CTO Prosper Nwankpa also participated in this round. According to Golden Gate Ventures partner Vinnie Lauria, his firm put in less than USD 50k in this round, which was closed third-quarter of last year.

“We would have loved to invest more, but they were oversubscribed,” he said.

Founded by Arun Thampi, Peter Kim, and AJ Solimine, Nitrous is a web service that enables developers to code from anywhere with any machine while skipping the arduous step of setting up each computer with the right development tools.

Developers can also use Nitrous to collaborate on projects in real-time, deploy to production servers quickly, and set up versioning for development environments.

Arun and AJ were formerly from Anideo, a Singapore-based mobile development company also funded by Eduardo Saverin. Arun also inadvertently started ‘AddressGate’ when he found out that Path has been uploading users address books without their permission.

Kim was one was the first employees at Viki, a Singapore-based website that crowdsources translations for entertainment videos. Arun met Kim while briefly working at Viki as a contractor.
