Stilt Studios, an Indonesian startup that makes prefabricated modular homes, has raised a US$10 million series A round in a mix of debt and equity. Christian Hymer, whose family founded German motorhome manufacturer Hymer, led the investment.

Florian Holm – formerly Lazada’s co-CEO for Indonesia – founded Stilt Studios in 2019 in Bali, Indonesia. Profitable since 2022, the firm plans to use the funds to grow its international presence and build its first large-scale residential project.

Holm’s new company wants to provide alternative and eco-friendly solutions for the housing market by minimizing the cost, time, and environmental impact of the building process.

Its products are based on a modular platform that allows for different design and customization options. Built with elevated structures and renewable materials, the homes are said to occupy less land and produce lower carbon emissions than comparable conventional houses.

Stilt Studios said its expansion into the Australian market has already started, with its first construction project slated to begin late this year. Besides Australia and Indonesia, the startup has received interest from Europe and the US.

So far, the company has built more than 50 houses, 80% of which were completed within the last 12 months. Its biggest project so far is the Family Village Canggu, a residential development that will have 25 family villas.

Stilt is also planning to build its first commercial office building in early 2024.
