Sinar Mas Group backs Indonesian fitness startup’s new round

Doogether, a health and wellness startup based Indonesia, has raised an extension to its pre-series A funding from Living Lab Ventures. The investor is an affiliate of local conglomerate Sinar Mas Group and Aldo Henry Artoko, the CEO of listed power plant operator Arkora Hydro.

The size of the new round, which also saw participation from existing Doogether backers such as Asiantrust Capital and Prasetia Dwidharma, was not disclosed.

Founded in 2016, the company started out by offering workout-booking services, which is now called Doofit. Doogether works with over 350 sports studios, trainers and communities to offer users various fitness classes.

Recently, the company rolled out Doospace, which supports struggling fitness studios by standardizing the quality of customer experience and rebranding them to Doospace by Doogether, among others.

The new capital will be used to target fitness studios in strategic locations across Indonesia’s Tier 1 and 2 cities. Studios can benefit from Doogether’s digital ecosystem through user traffic, demographic and sports trend data in their area, says Fauzan Gani, the company’s CEO.

Last year, Doogether raised the initial batch of its pre-series A round, which saw backing from AsianTrust Capital, Prasetia Dwidharma, and Alexander Rusli, former CEO of telco firm Indosat Ooredoo.

Doogether competes with several VC-backed startups in Indonesia’s fitness tech space, including FitHub, R Fitness, and The Fit Company.
