There are many analytics sites to measure influence on Twitter and now, Sina Weibo has one for its users too. On the analytics page you can measure and track:
- Your influence level
- Which categories of interest your fans are from (for example Internet, entertainment)
- Who are your most loyal fans
- Your fans’ growth rate
- The categories of interest of the people who you are following
- Your most popular tweets (weibos) sent so far
Unfortunately my influence level is at a low 16 compared to my friends on weibo. @klukoff, for example, has a score of 188. The score could go as high as the Sina Tech News Weibo account which has notched a lofty score of 1556.

While I do like Sina Weibo, I’m far more active on Twitter since that’s where my friends are. It’s the network effect that is playing trick here but hopefully Sina’s upcoming English weibo can convince my friends to start using the microblog. In some way, the analytics motivates me to be more active on Sina Weibo. (Hey, I’ve got to improve my score, right?) This reminds me of a TED talk by Seth Priebatsch, founder of SCVNGR as he shared the effects of gamification. The influential score motivates behavior and actions.
On a more serious note, the categorizing your fans interest really does help users to understand who they are attracting. For example, most of the people following me on Sina Weibo are in the Internet industry, which shows I’m connected with the folks who I hope to attract. This is huge for marketers to understand their followers better when considering a marketing campaign on Sina Weibo. Feeding the right content that suits your followers’ preference is likely to generate better feedback and attention.
Play around with the analytics page and let us know your feedback. Thanks to @yxlumiere for the shout out on Sina Weibo.
