TikTok has launched its Shop marketplace for some US users, featuring a continuous scroll of budget goods primarily from China. However, the early version lacks personalization and features possible counterfeit goods. Despite aiming to generate US$20 billion in sales this year, TikTok’s marketplace entry attracted criticisms for the product presentation and potential data security issues. TikTok insisted that Shop provides over 200,000 verified US merchants offering legitimate products.
