Amazon has been accused of using a secret algorithm – codenamed “Project Nessie” – to raise its prices artificially and gauge the response of competitors, according to a Wall Street Journal report. This allegedly boosted its profits.

The alleged practice was initially disclosed in a Federal Trade Commission complaint accusing Amazon of violating US antitrust law.
