Sega hopes to take Chain Chronicles across Asia via an unexpected partner
When Sega released Chain Chronicles back in July, the company knew it had a hit on its hands. It ended up being one of the biggest mobile games of the summer. Given its success, Sega has decided to take the game international and hopes to reach audiences in South Korea, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Macau. To do this, Sega announced yesterday that it is partnering up with China’s Shanda Games.
Shanda Games is one of the biggest developer/publishers of online games in China and has a respectable repertoire of games. It’s a logical choice for Sega, because Shanda is already in the business of operating Japanese-developed games, and it offers Sega access to the gigantic but difficult-to-penetrate Chinese market. If Chain Chronicles does as well in Chinese-speaking territories as it has in Japan, I won’t be surprised if Sega continues to partner with Shanda Games for future projects.
