SCOOP Now Powers Samsung Indonesia eReader App, Claims To Be Profitable

SCOOP, the magazine/news rack that focuses only on delivering digitized content, is now pre-loaded onto all new and future Samsung Galaxy smartphones and tablets in Indonesia, we are hearing. Developed by Apps Foundry, SCOOP claims to have more than 1,500 digital editions of content ranging from Forbes to Maxim.

Users basically purchase the digitized content on the app, and SCOOP will then do a revenue share with the publishers. Willson Cuaca, co-founder of App Foundry told me that SCOOP is now already profitable.

That is pretty remarkable considering SCOOP is only operating in Indonesia for now and smartphone/tablet penetration isn’t that great in the country, yet. Cuaca explained to me a little more about the Samsung partnership:

Currently eReading by SCOOP focuses on Indonesia only, but we are still in discussions with Samsung to make it regional. So far we have covered almost 70 percent of magazine titles in Indonesia, and I think that’s one of the key [reasons] why Samsung has chosen us.

I can’t say for sure how the app would work on a Samsung Android handset. I can’t seem to download it from Singapore which is pretty frustrating. But its iPad version does look sweet. For folks who want to give it a shot, you can download the app here. Let us know what you think of it.
