Fighting game golden boys Ho Kun Xian (Xian) and Eng Ghim Kee (Gackt) are saying goodbye to the claw and hello to the serpent thanks to brand new sponsorship contracts with Razer.
Xian and Gackt have been sponsored by Mad Catz via Singapore-based Team Desperation Move (Team DM) until recently, although that sponsorship deal seemed to have only extended to peripheral support.
The Razer deal promises “full support for international tournaments” for the duo, as a part of Razer’s commitment “to promote the fighting game scene in the region.” They will join the present team consisting of Keita ‘Fuudo’ Ai and Hiromiki ‘Itazan’ Kumada, as well as help with the development of the still-in-beta Razer arcade stick.
“Xian and Gackt are stellar examples of players that we want on Team Razer. They have achieved remarkable results already in their budding careers, and they will certainly continue to grow as great assets to the fighting scene internationally,” said Min-Liang Tan, co-founder, CEO and creative director of Razer.
Xian’s biggest win to date has been for Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition at the EVO Championship Series in Las Vegas in 2013, while Gackt, also playing the same game, recently wiped the floor with his opponents at the Capcom Cup Asia Finals. Xian also plays Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 and King of Fighters XIII.
“We are definitely honored to be part of Team Razer,” said Xian. “Razer’s involvement in our professional gaming lives will place both of us on a global level and we just can’t wait to make Singapore and all of Razer around the world proud.”
