Salesforce to buy enterprise search firm Doti to boost AI tools
Salesforce has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Doti, an enterprise search company.
The deal is expected to close in Q4 of Salesforce’s fiscal year 2026, pending customary approvals.
Salesforce said the acquisition will bring Doti’s team to strengthen its AI research and development hub in Israel.
The company plans to use Doti’s expertise to enhance its enterprise search capabilities, with Slack serving as the conversational interface for these new features.
Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Doti deal favors talent and IP over scale
- Doti raised a $7 million seed round in January 2025 1, so little time remained to build traction or prove enterprise fit.
- Salesforce adds depth to its AI research and development (R&D) hub in Israel 2, not near-term rollout, so value sits in talent plus IP over revenue.
- Named customers include Orca Security (a cloud security platform) and Similarweb (a web analytics firm) 3. Bringg (a delivery logistics software provider) is also listed 3. These look like early adopters, not broad market proof.
- The reported $100 million valuation plus $7 million raised 4 price in engineering skill over revenue multiples, which fits an acqui-hire (an acquisition primarily to hire a team).
Independent software vendors can meet demand with Slack-native enterprise search connectors
- Slack enterprise search supports connectors (integrations that let Slack query external apps and content) for Asana and Box 5. It also covers Confluence Cloud and GitHub 5. Jira Cloud, Google Drive, and Salesforce are included 5.
- Teams on Slack’s Enterprise+ plan (Slack’s top-tier plan for large customers) can use enterprise search by enabling connectors 6. That creates buyers for add-ons beyond Salesforce.
- Vendors like RheinInsights sell Slack integrations 7, so an ecosystem exists beyond native coverage.
- ISVs building permission-aware connectors (that respect each source app’s access controls) for unsupported platforms can stand out with federated, real-time search (querying live data across systems without duplicating it into an index). This matches Slack’s architecture and security posture 6.
