Confirmed: PopCap's 3D animated Plants vs Zombies 2 webisodes will premiere in China this week
We previously wrote about a rumor floating around QQ Games that PopCap were making three animated episodes centered around Plants vs Zombies 2. Now we’re pleased to confirm that it’s true.
PopCap China let us preview the first of the three 3D-animated webisodes they have ready to premiere this week. As rumored, the quality of the animation is indeed much better than what’s already available in the game’s current cinematic trailer, and I daresay bordering on par with the IP’s upcoming Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare.
The first episode has Crazy Dave and his sunflower ending up in the Wild West. The zombies sing a comical song in Chinese about their desire to eat big, fresh brains and are about to feast on Crazy’s when the sunflower decides it just can’t let Dave be eaten, and goes off back in time for reinforcements.
The webisode ends with a teaser of the next part – but we’re not going to spoil that for you. We’ll be sharing the link to the little film as soon as it goes live later this week, but be warned that it’s all in Mandarin, and has Mandarin subtitles too.
General manager of PopCap Greater China Leo Liu did tell us that he hoped for the studio to be able to make a full animated movie around the Plants vs Zombies IP if money and market were no object. Given how well the Chinese market has taken to PvZ, this might perhaps be a precursor to that.
