Rolling Babaa Mixes Donuts and Gravity in Physics-Based Puzzle Game

Movin Studio, a game and mobile app studio based in Jogjakarta, Indonesia, has just launched its first game. Called Rolling Babaa, it’s a child-oriented physics-based puzzler and is now available on the iTunes App Store.

The sheep, Babaa, loves to eat donuts and our objective is to help it get more donuts. How? By creating shapes, whether it’s circles, squares, triangles, or anything. It will automatically turn into an object that has gravity and you can use that to help Babaa roll along and get more donuts. Aside from the shapes, you can use hinges and nails to connect objects that you have created before (see the embedded video below to see it all in action).

The company itself consists of five people so far with programmers, artists, and sound engineers. Ali Iqbal, the company’s representative, also said that rather than aiming to be a viral game, Movin Studio is also concerned about its educational purpose and that its animations are suited to the target age. There won’t be any in-app purchases in the game so the studio will monetize by releasing two versions. The free one only has 20 levels, while US$1.99 will get you 50 levels with five different realms.

After trying out some levels of the free version, I find it quite interesting – yet the game isn’t really all that challenging. Maybe that’s because I’m not really the target market for the game, or it can be iterated or improved in the future to have more challenging levels.
