Judging by the number of players jumping into e-commerce in Indonesia or investing in e-commerce startups, enthusiasm certainly looks to be on the rise in this space. The ShopFair conference, to be held on July 13 and 14 in Jakarta, aims to boost the e-commerce industry in the country. Organized by Ideoworks and with Andi S. Boediman as the main man behind the show, ShopFair brings e-commerce offline by bridging the gap between online buyers and sellers. It also brings the entire chain of commerce together – ranging from the designers, the distributors, to the sellers. The event’s tagline? Shop, show, sell.
Andi shared some of the anticipated highlights with me:
The first session will cover how to promote an online store successfully. Another session will talk about practical payment for online transactions. We will also have an IDEA (Indonesian E-Commerce Association) panel discussion as well as talks on:
- Success stories from local merchants
- How to deal with fraud
- How to improve customer satisfaction
The event looks to attract more than 3,000 people and will have some familiar speakers such as Hanifa Ambadar of FemaleDaily, and also William Tanuwijaya from Tokopedia. Here’s a summary of the program:
- July 13, E-commerce Day: A chance to meet all of your e-commerce brands and to learn how to open your online store on their platforms. Plus lots of side-shows related to lifestyle, holidays, gadgets, etc.
- July 14, Woman’s Day: Everything about female consumers, such shopping, beauty, and fashion.
The conference is of great interest to us, as e-commerce continues to build up momentum in Indonesia. I can’t be sure that ShopFair will be of great help to the industry, but it is an effort from the community itself.
Personally, I like the idea of having folks coming out to meet and build handshake-level relationships. While e-commerce comes prefixed with an “e,” it is great for consumers and sellers to meet and build trust face-to-face. And hopefully this trust can be translated on the web, boosting trust when buying things online.
