As we all know and witness, every company wants a piece of the Chinese market but often find it a tough one to enter. If you want to understand China, you’ll want to understand the language first.
Seeing this rising opportunity, Dani Wang founded GraspChinese.com, a Chinese e-learning portal for language learners. The site looks simple and is filled with elementary Chinese content, perfect for Chinese beginners from the Western world.
GraspChinese.com provides ten free Chinese lessons. It uses video, audio, and slides to provide an engaging and multi-media e-learning experience. That’s really quite a lot of hard work to record, edit, and program.
The first ten lessons focus on some really basic stuff like saying hello and ordering a coffee. But if you have gone through these ten lessons, it should be a big help on your first trip to China or Taiwan. On top of that, it also provides online quizzes to help learners internalize all that they have learned. Dani told us that while her site has ten free lessons for now, there are a total of 40 lessons for users to explore. But that will come with a price.
I enjoyed the free lessons and it’s fun to ace the quizzes without even going through the full lessons. Each lesson will have a general lecture which is then followed by listening and writing practice. The writing follows pinyin, which is easier (in my opinion) than zhuyin which Taiwanese use. I must say I’m pretty impressed with the e-lesson structure provided by GraspChinese, probably the best that I have seen so far. It’s certainly worth a try for Chinese learners.
