Ring Ring… Hi there, how are you?

y-u-no-call-meme

We have so many different ways to communicate with others digitally today — text, IM, email, and voice calling. Somehow, I think calling just isn’t used as much nowadays. And to me that’s perhaps the most powerful feature of the mobile phone. So often, we rely too much on email. When doing sales or seeking partnerships, we often email out of convenience (or laziness?) and take that as a point of contact. But often, we just don’t hear back from the people we want to work with.

It could be because he/she doesn’t give a shit. Or perhaps, there are just too many emails that had yours buried under a heap of other people emails. I myself have been one who overly relied on email. But I’m trying to make a change; to call rather than to email whenever possible. I find it more effective to call someone, whether it’s for business or for a story. It’s hard for people to reject you through a phone call. If he/she does, it usually means game over. Persistent calling/emailing could just piss the other party off too, depending on the situation of course.

As a startup, we don’t have much time to waste. The endless ding-dong of email exchange and/or no-reply sometimes just makes things slow, while our burn rate keeps burning, unfortunately. I searched around YouTube and thought this short Steve Jobs video highlighted my point pretty well. And of course, if possible, meet up with folks too as it’s always good business practice to grow your personal network.
