Report: Sequoia-backed MPL acquires Indian esports platform GamingMonk
“Esports and skill gaming platform Mobile Premier League (MPL) on Tuesday said it has acquired New Delhi-based esports gaming platform GamingMonk,” The Economic Times reported.
Details:
- The acquisition will help MPL create a complete suite of esports and broadcasting capabilities. It will also help bring intellectual property of national, regional, and global tournaments onto MPL’s gaming platform.
- The entire GamingMonk team will be absorbed into MPL as part of the deal.
Context:
- GamingMonk organizes esports tournaments across console, PC, and mobile platforms. It has a community of over 1.3 million registered users to date.
- The development comes after MPL raised US$100 million earlier this year in a financing round led by Composite Capital, Moore Strategic Ventures, and Telstra Ventures, boosting the company’s valuation to US$800 million.
