VC firm launches $25m fund for alternative protein startups in Southeast Asia

“Good Startup, a cross-border VC firm seeking to remove animals from the global food ecosystem, has launched a US$25 million fund to invest in alternative protein startups,” reported e27. 

Details:

  • Through its Good Protein Fund I, the VC firm will invest in 32 Southeast Asian firms and assist them in areas such as IP protection, organization design, hiring, and fundraising strategies.
  • Investors including Anil Thadani (chairman of Symphony Asia Holdings), Tan Kim Seng (chairman of Kim Seng Holdings), and a consortium of angel investors participated in the financing round.

Context:

  • To date, Good Startup has invested in six firms including Eat Just, TurtleTree Labs, Avant Meats, Rebellyous Foods, Cultured Decadence, and Novel Farms.
  • The company has also bagged a VC fund management license from the Monetary Authority of Singapore.
