“Chinese food delivery giant Meituan plans to hire 60,000 new employees in 2021, doubling its current headcount,” South China Morning Post reported, cited a report by Chinese online media LatePost.
Details:
- Meituan is mainly hiring staff for its on-ground logistics and marketing teams. Meituan is expected to increase its headcount from 58,390 in mid-May to 100,000 by the end of this year.
- The Beijing-based company has posted 900 job vacancies on its recruitment website. Positions are available at its food delivery, bike-sharing, ride-hailing, and community group-buying services, as well as its powerbank-sharing and unmanned delivery operations.
Context:
- The development comes as Meituan is being investigated for allegedly breaching antitrust laws by forcing exclusivity agreements, among other moves.
- In April, the company had reportedly planned to raise about US$10 billion in an equity and debt deal to develop autonomous delivery vehicles and drones, as it aims to expand into groceries and ride-hailing.
