This, it seems, is the end of an era. According to Daily eSports (Korean), professional Starcraft II team SouL is disbanding permanently following the announcement today that former SouL player Dear has moved to the German team Mousesports (becoming its first-ever Korean player).
As a team, SouL had already been around for well over a decade. In 2004 its name was changed to STX SouL after the team got sponsorship from Korean shipping company STX, but the STX was dropped again late this summer when STX ceased to sponsor the team.
Today’s news that the team is shutting down for good isn’t a huge surprise, as it lost several players when STX dropped it, and the team was maintained mostly so that its remaining players would have time to find new homes. With the recent departure of Trap and now the announcement that Mouse has found a new home, apparently it no longer makes sense to continue running the team.
It’s not entirely clear what will happen to the team’s four remaining members at this point, but it is likely that most of them will be signed by other Korean Starcraft II teams.
