Hello readers,
During our recent Tech in Asia Conference in Jakarta, I got the rare opportunity to have lunch with my copyeditor colleagues: Eileen, Kyle, and Dhania (along with Simon from the Editorial team).
I say “rare” because they’re based in the Philippines and Indonesia while I’m in Singapore. We work together all the time but up until last week, I didn’t even really know what they looked like, save for Eileen since we’d met before.
Anyway, we settled into a hotpot restaurant that offered individual pots of soup and the freedom to cook our own ingredients, which were made available to us in a buffet setup. You could also mix and create your own sauces and condiments.
Now, Simon and I had eaten in restaurants with similar concepts before, but the copyeds hadn’t.
The sheer freedom of choice can be somewhat overwhelming for first-timers, and having had to spend a bit more time and effort than one would honestly like for a meal, Dhania lamented, “I really don’t thrive in unstructured environments.”
We all agreed that that was the quote of the trip.
Anyway, it appears that Indonesia’s healthtech firms share her sentiments – the passing of certain bills and policies in the country appear to herald a new era of growth for them. Read on to find out more.
Today we look at:
- How regulations are enabling growth for Indonesia’s healthtech firms
- The US$10 million series A round of a Singapore-based crypto payment gateway
- Other newsy highlights such as the US$5.5 million seed funding of a Bangladesh-based healthtech startup and some help to build Vietnam’s AI tech talent
