Alibaba’s first quarterly earnings report since it listed on the New York Stock Exchange shows the company earned US$2.74 billion in revenue in the third quarter of this year, up 53.7 percent from the same time last year. The Chinese ecommerce titan banked a net income of US$1.11 billion up 15.5 percent year-on-year, while net profit fell 38.6 percent to US$494 million during the third quarter.
The gross merchandise value (GMV) across all of its ecommerce marketplaces was US$90.53 billion for the quarter, up 49 percent. Taobao made up US$61.9 billion of that figure, with Tmall taking the rest, up 38 percent and 78 percent, respectively.
Alibaba has nearly 300 million yearly active buyers. On mobile, monthly active users hit 217 million, who bought US$95 million worth of merchandise.
