Web-based strategy game Sengokuixa lets players follow in footsteps of Japan’s most fearsome generals

Indonesian game developer Agate Studio recently released the web-based RTS game Sengokuixa, with the game industry titan Square Enix co-developing the game. The game has been released in Japan for sometime, and recently brought to Indonesia with a few modifications, explains Lee Marvin, product manager at Agate Studio.

Sengokuixa is a web-based strategy game with all the usual features that entails: time-based building upgrades, generating resources from building various structures, training armies, and going to war against other players. However, it also features more unique things such as army general cards, clan wars, and scheduled battles.

As the game title suggests, the game is played in Japan’s Sengoku Jidai era, a time when Japan was in turmoil due to civil war. At the start of the game, you will have to choose a clan to which you’ll swear your oath of allegiance. You will also have to choose your very first card. After that you will be brought to the tutorial, in which you will be guided to build your first resource buildings, warehouse, unit producing buildings, and shown how to mobilize your army, just like in most web-based strategy games. There are, however, some unique features that you will not find in other RPG games.

Time to battle with your cards

The cards depict real Sengoku era generals that you use to lead your armies. Every time you create an army, you will have to assign generals. At later stages of the game you will also be able to appoint more than one military leader card to one army to act as its captains. These cards each have their own unique attributes.

For example, Akechi Mitsuhide, my very first general, is very capable at leading artilleries, represented by the ‘B’ next to the gun icon on the card, while being incapable of leading foot soldiers effectively, represented by the ‘D’ next to the soldier icon. This card also possesses “Hougeki no Shinzui Lv 1” skill, which increases its chance by 15 percent per artillery unit, and increases artillery damage by 5 percent. So this particular card is designed specifically for players who use artillery rounds a lot. There are hundreds of such cards, each with their own skills and capabilities in war. Generals will also be able to level up and players will have the chance to increase their stats.

Clan wars

As I mentioned above, at the start of the game you will have to choose a clan. This will decide your allegiance and your opponents. There will be a two days war for every six days in which all 12 clans will be randomly matched up with other clans, resulting in a total six separate clan wars. This is the only time where PVP can be done. Players will be able to attack cities belonging to the rival clan to steal their resources and decimate their armies. After the war ends, players will be given time to replenish their resources for the next war, against one of the other 11 clans.

This system is rather unique in the way that players will not have to worry at being attacked repeatedly and never have enough time to recover. This will also make clans more balanced, sp that smaller clans will still have a chance because the superior clans will only be able to attack them when they are matched up.

There are many ways to spend your real money in this game. You can purchase extra construction slots to hasten your city development, speed up the time your armies take in travelling back home after battles, and more stuff, like with most other web-based RPGs. The most unique way to spend your money is to purchase a military generals’ card, just as you buy in-game resources in many iOS and Android games. You can use in-game money to purchase a basic booster which might result in you getting lousy generals/cards, or you can cough up for the premium booster that has a very high chance of getting you a high rank general.
